Murders Saturday in Tacony, Holmesburg; stabbing inside Wawa

Police have made an arrest in Saturday afternoon’s stabbing death of a 62-year-old man in Tacony.

At about 1 p.m., 15th Police District officers responded to a call of a person screaming on the 4000 block of Gilham St. They found a man in a second-floor bedroom with multiple stab wounds to the back of the neck and head.

Fire department medics pronounced the man dead on the scene. Police did not release the victim’s name, pending notification to his family.

Officers located the alleged offender on the 6400 block of Torresdale Ave. Carey Jessie, 28, of the 4000 block of Gilham St., was arrested without incident and charged with murder, possessing an instrument of crime and related offenses. Police believe the motive was an argument.

Saturday night saw more violent crime in the Northeast.

At about 10:05 p.m., inside the hallway of an apartment building on the 4400 block of Sheffield Ave., a 31-year-old man was shot multiple times throughout the body. He was transported by a private vehicle to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital, where he was pronounced dead several hours later. In the same incident, an 18-year-old man was shot in the abdomen and is in critical condition at Episcopal Hospital.

Meanwhile, there was a stabbing at about 11:48 p.m. inside the Wawa at 7715 Frankford Ave. A 22-year-old man was stabbed in the abdomen, thigh and groin and taken to Jefferson Frankford, where he is in stable condition.

Police are looking for two suspects. ••
