The Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University, 19th Street and the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, opened an exhibition, Conversations with Birds.

The museum hosted a media preview on Feb. 16, two days before the exhibition opened.

“You don’t have to be a scientist to be a birder,” said Scott Cooper, president and CEO of the Academy. “Birding is for everyone.”

Also speaking at the preview was Anwar Abdul-Qawi, an Academy educator, whose photos of our “feathery friends” is part of the exhibit.

The exhibit also includes video, hands-on activities, interactive media, live demonstrations, taxidermy mounts, animations and presentations.

Conversations with Birds opens just before the spring migration, when millions of birds fly north to their breeding grounds. Bird Safe Philly asks communities to participate in Lights Out Philly by turning off, blocking or dimming artificial lights from midnight to 6 a.m. to help keep birds from becoming confused by the lights and colliding with buildings, killing them.

The exhibit is on view through May 21 and free with general museum admission.

The Academy is open Wednesdays through Fridays from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m and weekends from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Call 215-299-1000 or visit ansp.org. ••
