2nd PDAC discusses recent murder

Inspector Frank Bachmayer, commander of the Northeast Police Division, introduced Capt. Marc Metellus at last week’s 2nd Police District Advisory Council meeting.

Metellus, who was a sergeant in the 15th district when Bachmayer was the commanding captain, replaces Capt. Jim Kimrey, transferred to Roxborough’s 5th district. He has 20 years on the job.

Bachmayer and Metellus were joined by 2nd district community relations officer Mark Mroz.

The police officials discussed the March 13 murder of Neko Rivera, 15, on the 6100 block of Algon Ave., in the Oxford Village housing project. Rivera was a former student at nearby Fels High School, and police believe his murder might be related to a prior altercation in the school.

The 2nd district plans extra patrols at the beginning and end of the school day at Fels, along with patrols on nearby Summerdale Avenue and Langdon Street.

In other news, state Rep. Anthony Bellmon and state Sen. Tina Tartaglione will hold Staying Strong, Determined and Healthy, a Women’s History Month event, on March 25 from 10 a.m. to noon at Fit Moms of Philly, 6036 Colgate St. There will be service and resources focused on women’s physical and mental health.

The 2nd PDAC will meet again at 6 p.m. on April 11 and May 9 at the Philadelphia Protestant Home, 6401 Martins Mill Road. The PDAC is also planning a picnic for 2nd district personnel in June at district headquarters at 7306 Castor Ave. ••
