Legal assistance available for civil matters

Tessa Hannigan, of Philadelphia Legal Assistance, last week addressed the Holmesburg Civic Association.

Philadelphia Legal Assistance is a 25-year-old nonprofit that provides legal aid in civil cases. Most of its funding comes from the federal government.

The bulk of its work is in family law, unemployment compensation and consumer housing.

To be eligible for help, an individual cannot make more than 200 percent of the federal poverty guidelines. The person must either live in Philadelphia or have a case based in the city.

For more information, call 215-981-3800 or visit PhilaLegal.org.

Cambridge also noted the mortgage dispute over the facility that is being handled by a court. “We’re hanging in there,” he said.

• The Star Players, of the city Department of Parks and Recreation, will present Mamma Mia! from June 2-4 at 7 p.m. at Venice Island Performing Arts Center, 7 Lock St. in Manayunk. Tickets cost $15 in advance and $20 at the door. Group rates are available. Tickets are available at Holmesburg Recreation Center, 4500 Rhawn St., or on Venmo @TheStarplayers.
