Take Back Your Neighborhood on Monday welcomed 2nd Police District personnel and four Democratic candidates for office.
Capt. Marc Metellus and community relations officer Mark Mroz represented the 2nd district and recommended drivers buy The Club to deter car thieves. Meanwhile, addressing the crowd were City Councilman Anthony Phillips (D-9th dist.), 9th Councilmanic District candidate Yvette Young, city controller candidate Christy Brady and Municipal Court candidate Colleen McIntyre Osborne.
Phillips said civic engagement and service are in his DNA. A former leader of youth programs, he said he’s been responsive to constituents on quality-of-life issues, such as rats in Oxford Circle. He’s teamed with Councilmen Brian O’Neill and Mike Driscoll to hike fines for illegal tractor trailer parking. He expects the Philadelphia Parking Authority to begin ticketing and towing these vehicles.
Young, director of facilities for the Pottsgrove School District, wants more programs for young people and term limits for Council members. She’s worked for the School District of Philadelphia, Philadelphia Gas Works and the city controller’s office.
Brady, a CPA who lives in Fox Chase, is the endorsed Democratic candidate for controller. She worked for the office for almost 30 years and was named acting controller when Rebecca Rhynhart resigned to run for mayor. Brady had to resign to run for the remainder of Rhynhart’s term. She also served under former Controllers Jonathan Saidel and Alan Butkovitz. She performed an audit on fire department brownouts that led to an end to the practice, and her audit of the school district’s proposed sale of artwork halted the sale.
Osborne, a married mother of two from Crestmont Farms, has been an assistant district attorney and JAG lawyer in the U.S. Army Reserve. Among her assignments as an ADA was in Veterans Court. She is one of two party-endorsed candidates in a four-person race.

• State Sen. Tina Tartaglione, Councilwoman Quetcy Lozada, state Rep. Jason Dawkins and the Frankford Community Development Corporation will hold a shredding event on Saturday, April 29, from 10 a.m. to noon in the rear parking lot of Truist Bank, 4625 Frankford Ave. ••
