State Sen. Jimmy Dillon, state Rep. Pat Gallagher and City Councilman Mike Driscoll last week presented Anne Prisco, president of Holy Family University, with a check from the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program for $2 million.
The money will be used to renovate Holy Family Hall, the campus’ original building. The renovations will feature a glass exterior, a one-stop shop for enrollment services, a large community meeting space and a connector bridge from Holy Family Hall to the Nurse Education Building.
Prisco described Holy Family Hall as a “precious building” that includes science labs. She said the atrium and other improvements will help Holy Family remain an anchor institution in the Northeast.
“It’s going to be glorious,” she said.
Dillon described Holy Family as a prominent university and a “jewel for the Northeast” that will also benefit from $100,000 in state funds that will go to special education teacher training.
Driscoll described Holy Family as a “rising sun” that recently hosted a mayoral forum and the All Star Labor Classic high school basketball games.
“Holy Family is doing big things,” he said.
Gallagher said he hopes to keep investing in Holy Family and in other areas of his district to ensure “a brighter future for the Northeast.”
The announcement took place in the gym during Holy Family’s end-of-the-year celebration for students. The celebration was moved indoors due to rain and featured a DJ, inflatables, funnel cake, water ice, cotton candy and popcorn. ••
