The Parkwood Civic Association last week held a City Council at-large forum, moderated by Northeast Times editor Tom Waring.
The forum took place in the St. Anselm gym and attracted Democrats Jalon Alexander, Melissa Robbins, Ogbonna Paul Hagins, John B. Kelly, Nina Ahmad, Rue Landau and Sherrie Cohen and Republicans Jim Hasher, Drew Murray and Sam Oropeza.
The candidates gave introductory remarks and answered questions on 8th Police District manpower, safe injection sites and homeless encampments on Woodhaven Road and Knights Road.
The election is Tuesday, May 16. Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
The deadline to apply for a mail-in ballot is 5 p.m. on May 9. Mail-in ballots must be returned by 8 p.m. on the night of the election.
Parkwood-area drop-off points are at the city election commissioners warehouse at 11311 Roosevelt Blvd. and Cpl. Jimmy O’Connor Memorial Playground (the old Chalfont Playground) at 4330 Deerpath Lane.
Parkwood Civic Association will meet on Tuesday, May 23, at 7:30 p.m. at St. Anselm, 12670 Dunks Ferry Road. ••
