Local mailman named Humanitarian of the Year

Anthony “Stich” Picariello was named Humanitarian of the Year by the National Association of Letter Carriers.

Picariello is a mailman in Somerton and the first Philadelphian to win the award. He was recognized for writing personalized responses to letters to Santa Claus during Christmas and bringing Halloween costumes to patients in the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia oncology unit.

Picariello and winners of other awards, including 2020 and ‘21 winners whose ceremonies were canceled due to COVID, were honored at a ceremony in Washington, D.C. ••
