New playground, memorial bench at Smedley

Mastery Charter’s Smedley Elementary School, 1790 Bridge St., on Monday held a ribbon cutting to celebrate the addition of new playground equipment.

The new play set was purchased in partnership with M&T Bank to replace the existing set and will be enjoyed by the 800 K-6 students who attend Smedley.

The new playground also features a memorial bench for Jamel Parks, a third-grade student who, along with his dad Jerry, was shot to death last year as they sat in their car outside their Wissinoming home. ••
