The Rev. Shane Flanagan, a recently ordained priest, celebrated Mass on Sunday morning at St. Dominic.

Flanagan, 27, grew up in Holmesburg and graduated from St. Dominic Elementary School and Father Judge High School.

He’s been assigned to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in Doylestown, effective June 19, but on Sunday celebrated a Mass in observance of the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ.

Afterward, there was a reception in Flanagan’s honor in Marian Hall, organized by Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court St. Dominic 2222.

In his homily and his remarks at the reception, he thanked the Rev. Edward Kearns, outgoing pastor at St. Dominic, and Deacon Mark Salvatore for their assistance over the years. He also thanked the parish community, and asked parishioners to pray for him. He promised to keep St. Dominic in his daily prayers, adding that the parish will forever be his home. And he distributed prayer cards and offered blessings. ••
