There will be no fireworks this July 4 in Lawncrest, it was announced at last week’s Lawncrest Community Association meeting.
Due to a lack of volunteers, it was previously announced that none of the other activities would be taking place.
There was some late hope for fireworks, as state Sen. Tina Tartaglione secured a $25,000 grant. However, the money was not available in time for the LCA to coordinate with police to control the scene.
The LCA plans to use the money for fireworks next July 4, However, that’s in doubt due to a planned 18-month city Rebuild overhaul of the Lawncrest Recreation Center.
In other news from the June 15 meeting:
• The LCA heard from Capt. Marc Metellus and Lt. Joe Mortimer, of the 2nd Police District, who said Kia and Hyundai donated 112 steering wheel locks to each police district to deliver to owners of those vehicles to deter car thieves.
