The Father Judge baseball team, which won the PIAA Class 6A championship, was honored recently at City Council.
City Councilmen Isaiah Thomas and Mike Driscoll sponsored the resolution.
Players and coaches were recognized during the June 22 Council session.
Driscoll said the Crusaders not only displayed baseball skills during their championship run, but showcased their work ethic and teamwork.
“We’re proud of their grit and determination,” he said.
Judge won the Catholic League and District 12 championships before defeating four opponents in the state tournament.
“They got the entire trifecta this year,” Thomas said.
Thomas is a District 12 board member who coached the Sankofa Freedom Academy boys basketball team to the Class A state title in 2019. He said the Crusaders will never forget the moments that led up to their PIAA championship.
Class 6A consists of the largest schools in the state.
“That’s the toughest classification in the state,” Thomas said. “They should be proud of it. They’re the real deal.” ••
