Burholme rejects proposed office space

The Burholme Civic Association last week voted, 16-0, to oppose a proposal by a resident of the 600 block of Disston St. to convert an existing detached garage into office space.

The woman said she owns a daycare center on Castor Avenue and needs the home office space to perform work.

However, some residents believe that the woman could do that work in her house and plans to use the renovated garage as a rental unit.

In addition, some neighbors on Tyson Avenue and Bingham Street said the woman’s house plays loud music most nights.

A Zoning Board of Adjustment Zoom hearing is set for Sept. 27.

In other news from the July 13 meeting:

• Capt. Marc Metellus and community relations officer Mark Mroz represented the 2nd Police District.

The 2nd and 7th police districts will hold a leisurely community bike ride, beginning at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 1, starting at Fox Chase Elementary School, 500 Rhawn St. All participants will be eligible for a drawing for new bicycles. Beginning at 6 will be the annual National Night Out celebration. ••
