TBYN hears how to report public nuisance

Capt. Marc Metellus accepts donations of two children’s bikes from Take Back Your Neighborhood’s Nancy Ostroff, Robert Rudnitsky and Pam Baranackie.

James Dellafiora, supervisor of the District Attorney’s Public Nuisance Task Force, spoke at Monday’s Take Back Your Neighborhood meeting.

Also in attendance was Curtis Crosland, of the DA’s community engagement unit. He served 34 years in prison for a murder conviction until 2021, when a federal judge ordered him retried or released based on the DA’s office conclusion that there were problems with the investigation and there was another suspect. DA Larry Krasner dropped the charges.

Dellafiora, who has worked for the office since 2006, encouraged people to call 215-686-5858 to give anonymous tips about issues such as drug sales and noisy speakeasies open after hours.

In other news from the meeting:

• Take Back Your Neighborhood donated two children’s bikes to Capt. Marc Metellus and community relations officer Mark Mroz, of the 2nd Police District. The 2nd and 7th police districts will hold a leisurely community bike ride, beginning at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 1, starting at Fox Chase Elementary School, 500 Rhawn St. All participants will be eligible for a drawing for new bicycles. Beginning at 6 will be the annual National Night Out celebration.

• Two representatives of the Energy Coordinating Agency spoke about issues such as weatherization workshops, utility bill assistance, replacements for hot water heaters, help with LIHEAP applications and job training and certification for green jobs. For more information, visit ecasavesenergy.org or call the heater hotline at 215-568-7190.

• State Rep. Jared Solomon will hold a community safety day on Wednesday, Aug. 23, from 4-6 p.m. at Roosevelt Playground, 6455 Walker St. ••
