O’Connor Playground sees improvements

City Councilman Brian O’Neill and the city Department of Parks and Recreation last week cut the ribbon on Cpl. Jimmy O’Connor Memorial Playground, 4330-40 Deerpath Lane.

Some $336,000 in renovations include a new basketball court, fencing, paving, mural and new signage recognizing O’Connor, a police SWAT officer shot to death in Frankford in 2020.

O’Connor’s family was in attendance.

O’Neill said the space is “sacred ground” and called O’Connor “a cop’s cop,” referencing his volunteer work at Calvary AA and what was formerly called Chalfont Playground.

The councilman said O’Connor Playground is a first-class facility named in memory of a first-class person. Next, he said, the city will install security cameras. ••
