A video shows a dark blue 2019 Hyundai Sonata, with tinted windows, pulling into the parking lot, and three masked black males exiting the passenger doors. They ran toward a bus stop and fired guns at the people waiting to board, then hopped back in the car as the driver raced away.

The victims were seven males and one female, ages 15-17. Seven are in stable condition. One, a 16-year-old boy, sustained nine gunshot wounds to the torso and is in critical condition.

The bus was struck by gunfire and was taken to the Frankford Transportation Center for investigation.

No arrests have been made. Anyone with information can call 911 or submit anonymous tips at 215-686-TIPS.

School District of Philadelphia Superintendent Tony B. Watlington Sr. said, “Our deepest sympathies and heartfelt thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of the Northeast High School students involved and to all of the students who witnessed this horrific event. We are committed to working together with Mayor Parker, City Council, District Attorney Krasner, Police Commissioner Bethel, business leaders, community stakeholders and residents, who share the urgent need to address gun violence in Philadelphia.”

Northeast will operate on a virtual schedule Thursday and Friday.

While school will be virtual, the district’s Emergency Crisis Response Team of the Office of Prevention and Intervention will be at Northeast to support students with grief counseling and whatever emotional assistance they need. Counselors are also available for students at Kennedy Crossan Elementary School. ••
