Mayor Cherelle Parker, City Councilman Brian O’Neill and state Sen. Jimmy Dillon attended Friday night’s banquet honoring two Liberty Bell Youth Organization football teams.
The Junior Pee Wee 11-under team went 9-0 and won the NESAC United Youth Football League championship.
The 10-under Cadet team was the NESAC UYFL Division One runner-up.
Damon Brockington coaches both teams. He is also the coach at Frankford High School.
The LBYO Patriots presented plaques to Parker, O’Neill and Dillon. The organization also presented a plaque to its president, Jim McDonald.
Parker, who said she’ll place her plaque on her office wall, recalled running track for the Philadelphia Flames and cheering for the Oak Lane Wildcats.
“I grew up bleeding blue and white,” she said, referencing the colors of the Wildcats.
Dillon presented LBYO with a state grant of $70,000 and said he’s happy to hear that Parker plans to make a budget investment in youth sports.
The banquet was held at Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 5. ••
