City elections commissioner Seth Bluestein addressed last week’s Holme Circle Civic Association meeting, reminding members that the deadline is Monday, April 8, to register to vote in the upcoming primary.
To register, you must be 18 or older, a legal U.S. citizen and a resident of Pennsylvania for at least 30 days.
The primary will take place on Tuesday, April 23, with polls open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
The deadline is April 16 to request a mail-in ballot.
Sample ballots are available by going to vote.phila.gov and typing in your address.
Bluestein said commissioners are looking for election day poll workers, who can make up to $295. Interested people attend training and work on election day from 6:15 a.m. until materials are picked up sometime after 8 p.m. Visit https://bit/ly/phila-pollworker.

• State Sen. Jimmy Dillon invited constituents to visit his offices at 10007 Ferndale St. and in the Parkwood Shopping Center, next to the Pretzel Factory.
Dillon would also like to see Senate Republicans hold a hearing and vote on a bill that would give volunteer groups immunity against so-called Strategic Lawsuits Against Public Participation (SLAPP). The House passed the bill, which languishes in the Senate Judiciary Committee.
• HCCA president Mike Fagan swore in Nance Kerns as a board member.
• The civic association donated $250 to Torresdale Library, 3079 Holme Ave., which will celebrate its 52nd birthday on Saturday, April 20. There will be preschool storytime at 10:30 a.m.; airbrush tattoos from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; live animals from the Center for Aquatic Sciences at noon; and the band Minas performing The Beatles in Bossa at 2:30. Light refreshments will be provided by Friends of Torresdale Library.
• The Northeast Family Y, 11088 Knights Road, will host Healthy Kids Day on Saturday, April 20, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event is free and open to the community. There will be games, crafts, family activities, snacks, music and local vendors.
• Friends of Northeast Philadelphia History will present the Northeast Philadelphia History Fair on Saturday, April 13, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Cannstatter’s, 9130 Academy Road. Admission is free. All are welcome. There will be historic displays, presentations on local history, books, prints, photographs and other historical items.
• The Philadelphia Water Department is inviting residents to learn about the Water Revitalization Plan, a 25-year initiative to upgrade and strengthen the city’s drinking water infrastructure. A local session is Tuesday, April 9, at 7:15 p.m. at Holmesburg Recreation Center (during the Holmesburg Civic Association meeting), 4500 Rhawn St. ••
