An overview of CCP-Northeast

Jeanna Perlman, director at Community College of Philadelphia’s Northeast Regional Center, 12901 Townsend Road, spoke at last week’s East Torresdale Civic Association meeting.

Perlman said enrollment was about 1,250 for the fall semester and is about 1,100 this spring. She said the numbers are lower than the pre-COVID years.

The building is 120,000 square feet, with plenty of free, off-street parking. Students pursue associate’s degrees.

The yearly cost of tuition and fees is $5,368. Perlman said students can earn up to $7,395 a year in Pell grants, and do not have to pay back the difference between the grant and tuition and fees.

In other news from the April 1 meeting:

• City elections commissioner Seth Bluestein told the crowd that the primary election is set for April 23. The deadline to apply for a mail-in ballot is April 16, at 5 p.m.

Bluestein said commissioners are looking for election day poll workers, who can make up to $295. Interested people attend training and work on election day from 6:15 a.m. until materials are picked up sometime after 8 p.m. Visit https://bit/ly/phila-pollworker.

• Ross Mitchell, executive director of Glen Foerd on the Delaware, 5001 Grant Ave., spoke of plans to build a parking lot, an idea that has been discussed for 40 years. Glen Foerd has 35,000 visitors per year, and they park on the lawn, which can get muddy after rainfall.

Mitchell also mentioned Jazz Impressions for Glen Foerd’s Pipe Organ, which will take place on Saturday, April 13, at 6:30 p.m. The free concert will feature works by Duke Ellington, Scott Joplin and more. For tickets, go to bit.ly/glenevents.

• East Torresdale Civic Association will meet on Monday, May 13, at 7 p.m. at All Saints’ Episcopal Church, 9601 Frankford Ave. ••
