Mark Mroz, community relations officer in the 2nd Police District, spoke at Thursday’s Lawncrest Community Association meeting.
Mroz said there were 78 stolen cars in a recent three-week period in the district. Of that total, 36 were stolen from 4 p.m. to midnight. There were 21 Kias and 20 Hyundais stolen. Three of the cars were running, and seven had guns in them.
Mroz invited the community to a town hall meeting held by Inspector Frank Bachmayer, commander of the Northeast Police Division, on Thursday, April 25, at 7 p.m. at the Philadelphia Protestant Home, 6401 Martins Mill Road.

• Charena Johnson, a community engagement and outreach specialist for Philly 311, said residents can submit non-emergency, quality-of-life service quests by calling 311, going to https://www.phila.gov/departments/philly311/ or using the Philly311 app.
• The LCA observed a moment of silence in memory of member Eva Baumgartel, who died April 16 at age 85. She and her husband, Hank, who died in November 2022, were active with the Lawncrest 4th of July Committee.
• The Philadelphia Protestant Home will host a free concert by the Philadelphia Boys Choir on Saturday, May 18, at 2 p.m. The public is welcome to attend.
• State Sen Tina Tartaglione, along with Rep. Joe Hohenstein, will hold a shredding event on Saturday, April 27, from 10 a.m. to noon, in the Wissinoming Recreation Center parking lot, 4035-55 E. Cheltenham Ave.
Tartaglione will hold a Senior Soiree Luau on Saturday, May 4, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Lighthouse, Front Street and Erie Avenue. There will be music, information and food.
• Residents were urged to call 911 if they see a vehicle parked next to a fire hydrant.
• State Rep. Anthony Bellmon will hold a shredding event on Saturday, May 4, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Philadelphia Protestant Home
Bellmon will hold a senior fair on Saturday, May 18, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at St. Thomas Indian Orthodox Church, 1009 Unruh Ave. Lunch will be provided.
• State Rep. Jared Solomon (D-202nd dist.) discussed his campaign for attorney general.
• Lawncrest Community Association will meet on Thursday, May 16, at 6:30 p.m. at St. William’s Monsignor James E. Mortimer Memorial Hall, Argyle and Robbins streets. The guest speaker will be from the state attorney general’s office, providing anti-fraud information. ••
