The Lawncrest Community Association last week voted unanimously to not oppose a proposed prepared food shop at 5813 Rising Sun Ave. (at Rosalie Street).
The shop, a former beer takeout establishment, will be open seven days a week and will sell fruit smoothies, takeout only.
Waste will be disposed of in a Dumpster, and the shop has security cameras.
In other news from the May 16 meeting:
• Two representatives from the state attorney general’s office discussed fraud.
The speakers encouraged people to annually check their credit scores at freecreditreport.com. For people who believe they are being scammed through the phone, they should block the numbers or change phone numbers.

• Mark Mroz, the community relations officer in the 2nd Police District, said owners of Hyundais and Kias can come to the district, at 7306 Castor Ave., to get a free steering wheel lock, as those makes are the most frequently stolen. Mroz encouraged all drivers to use a steering wheel lock.
• The Lawncrest Recreation Center closed on May 10 for renovations. The center will reopen in the fall of 2025. Lawncrest Library, which is also undergoing renovations, will reopen in September.
• The Philadelphia Protestant Home will host a Red Cross blood drive on Monday, June 24, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in its social hall, 6401 Martins Mill Road.
• Lawncrest Community Association will meet on Thursday, June 20, at 6:30 p.m. at St. William’s Monsignor James E. Mortimer Memorial Hall, Argyle and Robbins streets. The guest speaker will be City Controller Christy Brady. ••
