Burgess and Rodriguez used tourniquets to aid some of the victims before they were transported to the hospital.

State Reps. Jared Solomon and Anthony Bellmon presented them with citations. Aides to City Councilman Brian O’Neill and state Sen. Tina Tartaglione also provided citations. The 2nd PDAC presented them with plaques.

Solomon said Burgess and Rodriguez showed the “steely determination and dedication of Philly’s finest.”

“It really means a lot to Cris and I,” Burgess said.

“I really appreciate these awards and this recognition,” Rodriguez said.

In other news from the May 14 meeting, community relations officer Mark Mroz said the district will be looking for illegal pop-up car washes as the summer approaches.

Capt. Scott DiDonato, commander of the district, recommended that drivers use steering wheel locks after they park. Owners of Hyundais and Kias, the makes stolen most often, are invited to the district, at 7306 Castor Ave., to get free steering wheel locks.

Somebody complained that graffiti reading, “Black Jesus,” was sprayed on cars on the 400 block of Passmore St., and that cell phones and wireless cameras were jammed.

The police and Philadelphia Parking Authority will ticket cars parked on sidewalks and at curb cuts. The fine for parking at a curb cut is $301.

The 2nd PDAC will meet on Tuesday, June 11, at 6 p.m. at the Philadelphia Protestant Home, 6401 Martin Mills Road. ••
