Portugal Day, also known as the Day of Portugal, Camões and the Portuguese Communities, is an important national day for all Portuguese people around the world. It is observed annually on June 10.

Luís Vaz de Camões, a renowned Portuguese poet from the 16th century, is widely considered to be Portugal’s greatest poet. He authored many poems, including “Os Lusíadas,” a long narrative poem recounting the sea expedition of Vasco da Gama from Portugal to India by rounding Africa’s Cape of Good Hope. It is believed that Camões died on June 10, 1580. ••
