Cops, kids hoop it up

Lawncrest Recreation Center last Friday hosted a basketball game featuring police officers against neighborhood kids.

Capt. Marc Metellus, commander of the 2nd Police District, coached the police team, which took a 13-point lead and had a 34-25 lead at halftime.

However, Lawncrest Rec leader Steve Schmidt coached the kids to a 62-51 comeback victory.

John McBride served as the announcer.

Among those in attendance were City Councilman Anthony Phillips and Anne Marie Dunne, a manager for the city Department of Parks and Recreation.

The game marked one of the final events at Lawncrest Rec, which will close soon for renovations that are expected to take at least a year. ••
