Prevent pickleball injuries

Zen Serenity, a new wellness spa at 12353 Academy Road, offers a massage therapy program targeted to pickleball players that prevents injuries, alleviates muscle soreness, reduces fatigue, promotes overall relaxation and healing and aids in recovery post-play.

“When playing pickleball, you want to serve up smashing good times, not injuries,” said licensed massage therapist Xu Zheng, one of the owners of Zen Serenity. “With its quick movements, rapid direction changes and repetitive motions, pickleball can lead to various injuries, particularly if players do not take appropriate care of their bodies. I’ve created a comprehensive massage program to treat the specific areas that are most often abused in this sport.”

Common pickleball injuries that can be helped with massage include rotator cuff, elbow inflammation, wrist sprains, knee tendonitis, ankle sprains, plantar fasciitis and lower back strain.

“Regular massage increases blood flow, delivering more oxygen and nutrients to muscles thereby improving circulation and enhancing performance. It also reduces muscle tightness and increases flexibility and range of motion, which is critical for quick movements in pickleball,” Zheng said. “It also enhances tissue repair by promoting the removal of metabolic waste products and aids in toxin elimination and reduction of inflammation for faster recovery and decrease in post-play soreness.”

Zheng, who learned his skills by apprenticing under several Tui-Na (an ancient Chinese manipulative therapy) masters in China, employs a combination of techniques in his sessions, including effleurage (long, gliding strokes), petrissage (kneading and compression), proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation stretching, superficial friction, myofascial release and lymphatic drainage.Zen Serenity offers a variety of massage treatment options for pickleball players that range from 30 to 120 minutes. The wellness spa offers a range of therapeutic treatments including herbal steam therapy, infrared sauna, Himalayan salt room, detox foot bath and LED therapy. Visit https://spazenix.com. ••
