New PGW signs on Summerdale Ave.

Philadelphia Gas Works recently debuted new signage at its North Operations Center at 5000 Summerdale Ave.

The new exterior signs are about 17 feet tall, 26 feet wide and illuminated with thousands of LEDs.

The North Operations Center opened in June 2023 and is home to around 700 PGW employees.

The center allowed PGW to consolidate operations from eight facilities to the new building. By eliminating emissions from those eight buildings, PGW will cut its electricity usage nearly in half and reduce its carbon footprint by up to 50 percent as well as save customers an estimated $100 million over its first five years.

The center features:

• An Energy Recovery Ventilation Unit, which uses building exhaust to heat and cool areas of the operations center

• Thermal stratification fans for energy-efficient heating

• High-efficiency, water-saving plumbing fixtures

• Multiple new retention basins and underground drainage systems for stormwater management

• LED interior and exterior lighting fixtures that use less electricity and improve safety for surrounding properties ••
