Libby Caranci has created a Facebook page, Anna’s Angels, in memory of her sister, Anna Carpino, who died in 2021 at age 46 of glioblastoma, a brain cancer.
The charity raises money for financial, medical and emotional support for brain tumor patients, including children.
There is also a scholarship in Anna’s name.
The scholarship fund recently provided $500 apiece to three students to use for higher education. Award applicants had to be brain cancer survivors or have someone in their family with brain cancer. They were asked to write and submit an essay about their cancer experience along with an application.
Scholarship award winners were Timothy Fisher, a student at Keystone College whose mother is a brain cancer survivor; Angelina Ferrandino, a senior at Villa Joseph Marie whose grandmother passed away from brain cancer; and Vanessa Moresi, a student at Immaculata University and a glioma (brain tumor) survivor.
Caranci and the charity are working to train a pug for a 13-year-old boy, Joey Myers, who is battling a rare type of brain cancer. The pug would serve as Joey’s service dog.
Anna was an advocate for childhood cancer. Her son, Mario, was diagnosed with a brain tumor when he was 4. She raised more than $60,000 for Alex’s Lemonade Stand and also supported Kisses for Kyle.
