A crackdown on boom parties

Capt. Marques Newsome, commander of the 15th Police District, said recently he is cracking down on boom parties.

Newsome attended the 15th Police District Advisory Council meeting and was responding to a question by a Palmyra man who said the loud noise travels across the Delaware River and can be heard by New Jersey residents.

The man suggested that police seize the equipment of the people making all the noise.

Newsome said he visited the area near the Princeton Avenue boat ramp before the meeting and said fines, arrests and forfeiture of equipment are possible penalties. He also plans to lock the gates early.

Newsome is responding to complaints from both sides of the river about loud music, drinking and illegal swimming by children.

The Inconsiderate Late Night Philly Music page on Facebook has more than 6,000 members.
