New interim president at Nazareth

Nazareth Academy High School announced that the Rev. James E. Dalton, OSFS has been appointed as interim president.

Dalton replaces Denise LePera, who left to pursue other opportunities, according to the school. LePera was hired in 2017 as the school’s first president.

Dalton is a Port Richmond native and 1962 graduate of Father Judge High School. After graduating from high school, he entered the Oblates of St. Francis de Sales and was ordained a priest in 1972. He earned a master’s in Mathematics from Villanova University, a Master of Theology from De Sales Hall School of Theology and a master’s in Instructional Technology from the Philadelphia College of Textiles & Science.

Dalton has served as principal at North Catholic (1982-92) and Judge (2011-17). He was president at Salesianum School (Delaware) and interim president for a short time at Judge.

After leaving Judge as principal in 2017, he served as school minister at Neumann-Goretti until accepting the job at Nazareth.

“It is a delight to join the Nazareth Academy community,” Dalton said. “I have admired Nazareth’s academic, musical, athletic and school-sponsored activities and achievements from a distance. During these first few days, I have grown to appreciate firsthand both the spirit and the underlying spirituality which makes Nazareth such a special place.” ••
