Back-to-school party at Creighton

Dwayne Hamilton, manager of the Walmart at Adams Avenue and Roosevelt Boulevard, honored fourth-grade teacher Cassandra Benavides for excelling in the classroom. Ms. Benavides’ pupils increased their science test scores by 10% points in two years.

Universal Creighton Charter School, 5401 Tabor Road, hosted its third annual back-to-school block party in conjunction with Walmart, Greater Philadelphia Health Action, Duane Morris LLP, Dunbar Agency, state Sen. Sharif Street, state Rep. Jason Dawkins and Councilman Anthony Phillips.

The event featured a complimentary backpack giveaway stuffed with school supplies, social activities, musical performances and entertainment, a video game truck, food, school activities, visits by community partners and face painting.

School started on Sept. 3. ••
