Holmesburg Civic Association last week approved a woman’s bid to open a day care at 3405 Welsh Road.
The site, at Crispin Street, is a former wedding venue and before that a Knights of Columbus hall.
The property is zoned residential. Attorney Alan Nochumson and property owner and daycare provider Irina Fradkin presented letters of support from neighbors, and outlined her education and experience in the field.
The site would care for up to 50 children and be open daily from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The Holmesburg Civic executive board did not oppose the plan, and the membership vote was 13 not opposed and none opposed.
The civic will write a letter of support to the Zoning Board of Adjustment. The hearing is Sept. 18.

• The civic heard a presentation from Revolution Recovery, a recycling service and Dumpster rental business at 7333 Milnor St.
• The civic received a $1,000 Philadelphia Activities Fund grant from City Councilman Mike Driscoll.
• The Star Players, of the city Department of Parks and Recreation, will present Guys and Dolls from Oct. 11-13 at Venice Island Performing Arts Center, 7 Lock St. in Manayunk. Show time is 7 p.m. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. Group rates are available.
