A new sensory room at Phila. Arts & Sciences Charter

The Philadelphia Charter School for Arts and Sciences, at Large and Dyre streets in Northwood, last week opened a sensory room for autistic-support students.

The room was made possible by a grant from the Eagles Autism Foundation.

Before the green ribbon cutting, there was a performance by the school drumline and a rendition of The Eagles’ Victory Song (Fly, Eagles Fly) by the choir and band.

The sensory room provides a dedicated space for those who may need a quieter and more secure environment. The safety-proof room features sensory flooring (painted green) and lighting; black carpet on the walls; comfortable furniture, including huge bean bag chairs; two soothing bubble walls; a sensory touch panel; a little bed; and a sensory art wall.

Principal Judy Taggart said, “We are so grateful for being the recipient of this grant so that we can provide this much-needed space to our students. It is such an honor to be the only school selected in the city of Philadelphia to receive this grant and to have developed such an excellent relationship with the Philadelphia Eagles and Eagles Autism Foundation.” ••
