Svetlana Dali, a 57-year-old woman from Northeast Philadelphia, was arrested again after attempting to escape the United States.
U.S. Marshals took Dali into custody on Monday near the Canadian border in Buffalo, New York, as she tried to board a Greyhound bus heading to Canada.
Dali, a Russian national and permanent U.S. resident, had previously made headlines in November for stowing away on a Delta Airlines flight from New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport to Paris.
Authorities say Dali was wearing an ankle monitor as part of her release while awaiting trial for the stowaway incident.
However, she cut off the device over the weekend and fled the home of a friend in Philadelphia, prompting the friend to alert the police.
After an intense manhunt, law enforcement tracked her down in Buffalo.
This arrest follows her high-profile stunt in late November when Dali bypassed TSA security at JFK by blending in with a European flight crew and boarding a flight to Paris without a boarding pass.
Once on the plane, passengers reported that Dali acted erratically, and that caused flight attendants to alert French authorities, who arrested her upon arrival.
Dali’s legal troubles have been complicated by her erratic behavior.
Before attempting to flee to Paris, she filed bizarre lawsuits, including one in which she claimed to have been sold as a slave in 2014 and another alleging poisoning by Russian military officials.
Authorities are still investigating her unusual claims, which include a toxicology report from a German practitioner that allegedly links her to military-grade chemical agents.
Following her arrest in Paris and return to the U.S., Dali was placed under police surveillance in Philadelphia, but her latest attempt to flee the country has raised further questions about her intentions.
Authorities are continuing their investigation into her past and the mysterious circumstances surrounding her actions.
