A 59-year-old man was taken into custody on Friday morning after he fired shots at police officers and barricaded himself inside a Northeast Philadelphia home.
According to Philadelphia police, the incident began just before 7 a.m. on January 24, 2025, when officers responded to a 911 call reporting a man with a gun at a residence on the 7500 block of Verree Road, near Oxford Avenue.
Upon arrival, the suspect fired shots at the officers through the front door, though none of the officers returned fire, police said.
A barricade situation was quickly declared around 7:09 a.m., prompting the deployment of a SWAT team.
Around two hours later, just before 9 a.m., the suspect surrendered without further incident.
Authorities confirmed that no injuries were reported, and there was no word on whether anyone else was inside the home at the time of the standoff.
The incident remains under investigation, and authorities are also offering resources for communities affected by gun violence.
