The 38th Annual Philadelphia All Star Labor Classic is far more than a basketball game—it’s an event that showcases athletic talent while giving back to the community in meaningful ways.
Scheduled for Sunday, April 13, 2025, at Holy Family University, this longstanding charity event has become a key highlight in the city’s philanthropic calendar.
Organized by IBEW Local 98 and the Philadelphia Building and Construction Trades Council, it brings together high school basketball players, dedicated volunteers, and generous sponsors in support of a worthy cause.
This year, the event will once again partner with The Superhero Project, a nonprofit organization making a difference in the lives of families with babies in Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICUs).
The organization provides “Angel Eye Cameras,” which allow parents to remotely see their hospitalized babies through their phones or laptops.
This technology is invaluable for parents who cannot be physically present at their baby’s bedside, helping them stay emotionally connected during incredibly challenging times.
The nonprofit’s mission extends beyond the cameras, offering family-centric programs that create a sense of community and support for mothers, fathers, and caregivers.
The Superhero Project has a deeply personal connection to the event.
Kelly Ross, a key member of the Building Trades team, and her husband, Ryan, experienced the life-changing impact of the organization firsthand.
Their twin sons, Miles and Cole, were born prematurely at 29 weeks in 2022 and spent 54 days in the Holy Redeemer Hospital NICU.
The “Angel Eye Cameras” allowed Kelly and Ryan to remain connected to their sons even when they couldn’t be there physically, providing them with much-needed emotional support.
This experience fueled the Building Trades’ commitment to the nonprofit, and they are honored to support it through the All Star Labor Classic.
Last year, the event raised an astounding $207,050, far surpassing the goal of $200,000—the largest single donation the nonprofit had ever received.
With such success behind them, the Building Trades Council is determined to raise even more in 2025, ensuring that the Superhero Project can continue its life-saving work for families across the country.
While the All-Star Labor Classic celebrates sportsmanship, it also shows its commitment to education and community welfare.
Each participant in the event receives a $500 college scholarship to support their educational goals, whether they pursue higher education or a trade after graduation.
The scholarship recognizes these students as role models and future leaders.
Thanks to the generous contributions of sponsors, every element of the event—from uniforms to water bottles—is supported.
Volunteers play an essential role in bringing everything together, from securing sponsors to managing event logistics.
The All Star Labor Classic has been a fixture in Philadelphia for over three decades, but its impact is felt far beyond the basketball court.
With each year’s event, the funds raised provide scholarships for local students while helping The Superhero Project continue its vital work.
For those interested in attending, the game will take place on Sunday, April 13, 2025, at Holy Family University, 9801 Frankford Ave in Philadelphia.
Come out, enjoy the competition, and join in supporting a cause that truly makes a difference.
