Day Two of psychOdelphia Convention

The second day of the psychOdelphia weekend is full of various events and meeting opportunities between fans and cast members. Friday featured only Sage Brocklebank, who hosted the day wonderfully, yet the complete cast has arrived for the rest of the weekend.

Just like Friday, the convention has brought in the infamous Blueberry, the car driven throughout the series by Gus and ‘Shawn, ’ played by Dulé Hill and James Roday Rodriguez, respectively. Today, however, fans are given the chance to take pictures with the car accompanied by James and Dulé. The first panel and event of the day began at 10:30, kicking off the function with a discussion between singer Curt Smit, who made appearances on the show, creator Steve Franks, producer Chris Henze, and James Roday Rodriguez. The men touched on the heavy 80s influence incorporated into the show and the many references ‘Shawn ‘and ‘Gus’ spoke throughout the series.

Beginning at 10 a.m. and going on throughout the day, fans with the required ticket tier were able to take pictures and get autographs with their selected cast members. Maggie Lawson, Timothy Omunson, Kurt Fuller, and Corbin Bernsen—among other less regular cast members—were in the same room as the merchandise, allowing fans to see them and say hello regardless of their ticket tier. Autographs and photo opportunities were done in spaced-out intervals with various ticket sessions to ensure a calm flow of people and reduce a flood of individuals.

Among the many panels offered was one featuring Dulé and his wife—both on and off-screen—Jazmyn Simon. The couple discussed their relationship on the show and how being married off-set shaped their experience while filming. During the convention day, there were also trivia games, singalongs, and cosplay contests with prizes for fans to win.

Fans are also able to listen to the panel “Men of the SBPD,” featuring Timothy, Corbin, and Kurt, who plays Detective Lassiter, Henry Spencer, and Woody, the coroner on the show. Later on in the day, after a trivia contest and the second singalong, there was a panel, “The Ones that Got Away,” with James, Maggie- who plays detective Juliet O’Hara- and Rachael Leigh Cook and Néstor Cornell, who play the respective characters’ love interests on the show.

The turnout for Saturday was much higher than the previous day, most likely due to the presence of the complete cast. The convention ended with an all-cast evening event followed by a movie screening of the first Psych film. Steve Franks and the cast expressed deep gratitude to the fans, especially those who went up to the panels and asked questions, stating that “without you, there is no show. You are the hosts; we are the guests.” Fans are still able to purchase merchandise and have traded handmade Psych-themed accessories and small gifts.
