Keith Mitchell leads the Truist Championship heading into Friday’s second round at 9-under par after firing a career-low, bogey-free 61 in Thursday’s first round at the Philadelphia Cricket Club.
Mitchell entered the tournament with top-20 finishes in his last four starts. He is seeking his second PGA Tour title, having won the 2019 Cognizant Classic in The Palm Beaches.
Meanwhile, Denny McCarthy is one shot behind after posting a 62.
Four golfers shot rounds of 63 and are tied for third place: Rickie Fowler, Collin Morikawa, Sepp Straka and Akshay Bhatia.
FedExCup leader and defending champion Rory McIlroy is 4-under and tied for 25th after opening with a 66. He also won the tournament in 2010, 2015 and 2021. ••
