Police recruitment and retention
The Senate adopted a resolution sponsored by Sens. Joe Picozzi and Wayne Langerholc Jr. (R-35) that establishes a task force on the recruitment and retention of law enforcement personnel in Pennsylvania. Senate Resolution 94 creates a task force within the Joint State Government Commission to examine the ongoing challenges in filling vacancies for law enforcement officers, corrections officers and prosecutors across the state. The task force is charged with developing actionable policy recommendations to enhance Pennsylvania’s ability to attract and retain qualified individuals in these public safety roles. The Joint State Government Commission, a non-partisan research agency serving the General Assembly, will facilitate the task force’s work. A final report with findings and recommendations is due to the General Assembly by April 30, 2026.
“We are facing a growing crisis in police recruitment and retention, not just in Philadelphia but across the commonwealth,” Picozzi said. “The task force established by this resolution will help to identify the causes of these staffing challenges and develop actionable solutions.” ••

Curfew, underage drinking
Curfew in Philadelphia is 9:30 p.m. for anyone 13 and under and 10 p.m. for those ages 14-17. If police pick up someone for a curfew violation in the Northeast, the young person will be taken home, to the Community Evening Resource Center at 4704 Leiper St. in Frankford or to the 2nd, 7th, 8th or 15th police districts. The penalty for a curfew violation can be up to $300.
Under state law, underage drinking is a summary offense with a $500 fine for the first violation. Anyone receiving a citation for underage drinking can be asked about it on applications for jobs, college applications and appointments to military service academies. ••

Women’s flag football, men’s volleyball coming to Manor
Manor College will debut women’s flag football and men’s volleyball for the 2025-26 school year.
