St. Cecilia students raise money for Chromebooks

St. Cecilia Elementary School, 525 Rhawn St. in Fox Chase, held its 43rd annual Walk-a-Thon to support its STREAM program. Event proceeds – the school exceeded its $25,000 goal thanks to student sponsors – will benefit the technology component of STREAM with the purchase of new Chromebooks for students.

More than 500 students in Pre-K to eighth grade participated in the Walk-a-Thon. They walked about 1.5 miles, along Rhawn Street and onto the Lorimer Trail and Pennypack Trail into Rockledge.

Among those at the event were the Rev. Christopher Walsh, pastor; Sister Catherine Masino, IHM, principal; and Chase the Wildcat mascot.

Walsh celebrated Mass earlier in the day.

In the fall, St. Cecilia School will celebrate its 100th anniversary. To commemorate the milestone, students had the opportunity to submit artwork that was printed on T-shirts they wore for the walk.

An all-class reunion is planned for Nov. 22, the feast day of St. Cecilia, at the school. ••
