Specifically, neighbors pointed to people who use the pavilion.

Concerns include illegal parking, loud music, fireworks and a lack of permits.

Some neighbors want the pavilion relocated within the park, while others want the pavilion removed.

In other news from the June 11 meeting:

• The group heard from Mark Mroz, community relations officer in the 2nd Police District.

Mroz said officers assigned to school beats will spend the summer at public swimming pools and playgrounds.

Mroz said all city officers will begin to wear Navy shirts, with the color change voluntary starting Oct. 1 and mandatory on Jan. 1.

The Lawncrest 4th of July Celebration will take place on Saturday, July 5. There will be vendors, food trucks, a car show and fireworks.

The 2nd and 7th police district community bike ride will take place on Tuesday, Aug. 5, at 5 p.m. at Fox Chase Elementary School, 500 Rhawn St. Participants will be eligible for a new bike giveaway at 5:30.

Mroz said, compared to last year, shootings, gunpoint robberies, robberies, residential burglaries and retail thefts are down. Stolen autos are up. The 2nd district has increased its number of truant stops and car stops.

Paul Miller’s Law went into effect on June 5. The law bans the use of hand-held cell phones while driving. Violators will be issued written warnings. Beginning June 6, 2026, violators can receive summary citations. Paul Miller was a 21-year-old Scranton man killed in a 2010 accident believed to be caused, in part, by a distracted driver.

• The owner of a home at 716 Strahle St. asked for support for a variance for a fence on his property. The fence came with the property when he bought it in 2022, and it is believed a neighbor snitched on him. The fence is opaque, not set back far enough and 5 feet high (the maximum allowed is 4 feet). Members unanimously voted to support his request for a variance.

• Members listened to a presentation on the city’s recycling program.

Accepted items include paper, metals, cartons, cardboard, glass and some plastics. Recyclables should not be bagged, and plastic bags and most common contaminants are not accepted. Free recycling bins are available at the sanitation convenience center at State Road and Ashburner Street.

Household hazardous waste can be taken to State and Ashburner on Thursday, July 10.

To report sanitation workers throwing recycling buckets, call 311.
