Stand up for women

Last year, Sean Dougherty and his political allies spent over $2.5 million to buy a seat in the state House. Even with that deluge of money, Sean barely scraped by winning the closest state House race in all of Pennsylvania.

That narrow margin should serve as a reminder: He was not elected to carry out the radical agenda of Democratic party leaders such as Joanna McClinton and Matt Bradford in Harrisburg. He was elected to serve the people of Northeast Philadelphia.

Right now, PA Senate Bill 9 is sitting in the House. It is a straightforward, commonsense measure to protect girls’ and women’s sports by ensuring biological males do not compete in female divisions. This bill is about fairness, it is about safety and it is about preserving the hard-won opportunities of female athletes who train, sacrifice and compete with integrity.

So where is Rep. Sean Dougherty?

House Democratic leadership is blocking the bill from even coming up for a vote. If Dougherty has any real influence in his caucus, now would be the time to use it. What good is a state representative who cannot even get his own party to consider a vote on an issue as fundamental as protecting women’s sports? What good is a representative who stays silent while his party plays games with the rights of our friends, sisters and daughters?

By refusing to speak up, Rep. Dougherty is siding with extremists and standing against women. His actions or lack of action are anti-women.

Period.

If Sean Dougherty remains silent while his party plays politics with the rights of women and girls, I’ve no doubt voters in Northeast Philadelphia will remember that he barely won this seat and they will be watching what he does with it. Will he be a representative who does his job or does Sean keep dancing to the tune of Harrisburg radicals who funded his campaign?

It’s time for Rep. Dougherty to stop standing with radicals and start standing up for women and the voters of his district.
