Orleans Technical College, a program of JEVS Human Services, hosted its first hiring fair spotlighting careers in both the health trades and building trades. The event aimed to connect recent OTC graduates and job seekers with local employers in high-demand industries. The hiring fair was made possible through funding from the city Department of Commerce.

More than 40 employers met with several hundred OTC grads and job seekers at the July 24 event.

Orleans Tech, 2770 Red Lion Road, provides accelerated, hands-on career training for in-demand positions. Programs include Air Conditioning Refrigeration & Heating, Building Maintenance, Carpentry, Plumbing & Heating, Residential & Commercial Electricity, Associate Degree in Construction Management, Clinical Medical Assistant and Practical Nursing.

OTC president Rodney Brutton welcomed, among others, acting Commerce Director Karen Fegely and Elisa Ford, talent acquisition specialist at SEPTA and 2009 OTC grad in home maintenance construction.

“Thank you for investing in local talent,” Fegely told employers.

Fegely also addressed OTC grads and job seekers as they pursue family-sustaining wages in in-demand roles. She said education leads to opportunity, and opportunity leads to thriving communities.

“Today could be the start of your next chapter,” she told the job seekers. ••
