National Night Out in the Northeast

There were four National Night Out celebrations on Tuesday in the Northeast.

The 15th Police District National Night Out event took place in the parking lot of the Brown Family ShopRite at 5597 Tulip St. There was a dance performance, food, refreshments, giveaways, information tables and an awards ceremony.

Tacony Town Watch held its annual National Night Out event at Russo Park, 7300 Torresdale Ave. Guest speakers included Inspector Frank Bachmayer, commander of the Northeast Police Division; City Councilman Mike Driscoll (D-6th dist.); and Terry Devlin, of the 6th Councilmanic District Neighborhood Community Action Center. The event also featured vendors, a DJ, free haircuts and henna tattoos.

The 8th Police District hosted National Night Out at its headquarters at 3100 Red Lion Road. The event featured a DJ, vendors, a visit by the Engine 22 fire truck, face painting, water ice, pretzels, grilled food, snacks, a Chick-fil-A prize wheel and an appearance by the chicken restaurant’s cow mascot.

The 2nd and 7th police districts held a community bike ride outside Fox Chase Elementary School, 500 Rhawn St. The leisurely ride was escorted by police officers. All participants were eligible to win a new bike in a raffle. National Night Out followed in the Fox Chase school yard. There was a DJ, vendors, free pizza, ice cream, cotton candy and water ice and an appearance by the Rita’s Ice Guy mascot. The event was organized by the office of state Rep. Sean Dougherty, along with the 2nd Police District Advisory Council and Fox Chase Town Watch. ••
