Stephanie Phillips, executive director of the nonprofit Riverfront North Partnership, addressed last week’s meeting of the East Torresdale Civic Association.
Phillips explained that Riverfront North works on projects along the Delaware River, from Port Richmond to Torresdale. In all, eight parks have been built over the years.
In addition, Riverfront North offers more than 200 free public programs per year.
The 10-acre Borski Park, the newest park along the river, at 3150 Orthodox St., will host Parks on Tap from Sept. 10-14. Hours are 4 to 10 p.m. from Sept. 10-12 and noon to 10 p.m. on Sept. 13-14.
Phillips said Riverfront North has planted 1,000 trees at Pennypack on the Delaware to prevent shoreline erosion.
Phillips spoke of a few upcoming projects, including a feasibility study to improve the ponds at Pleasant Hill Park.
Also, a design will be completed by the end of the year at Tacony Boat Launch, at Princeton Avenue, to offer fishing and boating opportunities.
There are also improvement plans for Frankford Boat Launch, 5501 Tacony St.
• Dan McGugan, of the Eastern Atlantic States Regional Council of Carpenters, discussed ways that registered community organizations such as ETCA can handle proposed development projects. McGugan will provide ETCA with suggested language RCOs can use in agreements. He will also supply a list of approved contractors. In response to a question, McGugan predicted that any new Eagles stadium will be built in South Philadelphia, not at the site of Franklin Mall.
