The fire department’s Ladder 31, at Academy and Comly roads, was on site, and there was an appearance by Smokey Bear.

Participants learned how to test smoke detectors, perform CPR, put out a fire with a fire extinguisher and evacuate residents during a building emergency. They also received information on active shooter situations and the contents of a first aid kit.

The safety fair complemented the veterans home’s existing written disaster plan.

Residents, staff and vendors were treated to water ice, pretzels, cookies, chips and cold drinks. ••
