Making Castor, Bustleton avenues cleaner

State Rep. Jared Solomon welcomed four new Bigbelly trash cans, two on the 6500 block of Castor Ave. and two at the intersection of Bustleton Avenue and St. Vincent Street. The trash cans are funded by money Solomon secured for the Oxford Circle Christian Community Development Association.

Solomon was joined by OCCCDA representatives for the installation of the trash cans on Castor Avenue.

“The Castor Avenue renaissance continues,” he said.

Solomon said the trash cans – decorated with images such as soft pretzels, water ice, an Eagles logo and street signs – “set the tone” for an improved look and feel of the commercial corridors.

Solomon said he is looking forward to $50 million in improvements along Castor Avenue, from Oxford Circle to Cottman Avenue, and on Cottman from Castor to Roosevelt Boulevard. The improvements will include greenery, lighting, sidewalk replacements and a conversion on Castor from four lanes to three, with left-turn lanes.

Previous changes have included the installation of banners and security cameras, outside seating for restaurants and storefront improvements. ••
