The Ryerss Museum & Library, 7370 Central Ave. in Burholme Park, recently celebrated the grand reopening of its elevator.
The elevator broke during a 2019 Christmas event.
Staff and Friends of Ryerss credit Theresa Stuhlman, preservation and development administrator at the city Department of Parks and Recreation, for being diligent in securing the money to finally repair the elevator. The work was done by Fujitec at a cost of $245,941.
“We are so happy,” said Martha Moffat, site manager. “We are so grateful for her efforts.”
“It was a long time coming,” Stuhlman said.
The working elevator, which goes from the basement to the second floor and back down, was celebrated on Sept. 20 and was billed as “a grand opening that will lift your spirits.” The afternoon included hot dogs, snacks, drinks, doughnuts, pretzels, games, activities, tours, tattoos and an appearance by Snapper the Ryerss alligator.
Stuhlman added that Parks and Recreation in June funded $300,000 to upgrade the HVAC system in the museum.
Friends of Ryerss is raising money to restore the Windsor chairs in the library.
Ryerss Museum & Library is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Call 215-685-0544 or visit robertryerss.org. ••
