The Mayfair Business Improvement District sponsored a Christmas village and tree lighting on Nov. 13 at Frankford and Cottman avenues.

There were free pictures with Santa and Mrs. Claus inside an igloo, holiday shopping with local vendors and small businesses, Christmas drinks, seasonal treats, music and snowflakes.

The crowd included the Rev. Patrick Welsh, pastor at St. Matthew Church.

Elected officials on hand were state Sens. Tina Tartaglione and Joe Picozzi, City Councilman Mike Driscoll, state Reps. Pat Gallagher and Jared Solomon and city elections commissioner Lisa Deeley.

The tree was lit by Joseph and Rosemary Veneziale, the owners of Giggles Gifts, as DJ John McBride played Joy to the World.

The Veneziales will be the grand marshals of the Mayfair-Holmesburg Thanksgiving Parade, which will take place on Sunday, Nov. 23, starting at noon at Frankford Avenue and Rhawn Street.

The parade route travels south to Knorr Street. ••
