Hair Way to Beauty, 7546 Castor Ave. in Rhawnhurst, recently celebrated 10 years of ownership by Eileen Teti.
The shop opened in 1984 under the ownership of Lucy Amodei. Teti began working there in 1989 and bought the business from Amodei in 2015.
“My boss Lucy taught me everything,” she said.
Teti celebrated a decade of ownership during Thanksgiving week, culminating with a special retail sale on Small Business Saturday.
The shop was decorated with balloons, flowers and a Christmas tree. Customers were treated to coffee, refreshments and food, including pieces of Gaeta’s tomato pies. There were giveaways, raffles and 20 percent off retail products.
On Thanksgiving week, Teti said she is thankful for loyal customers. She described Hair Way to Beauty as a “neighborhood salon” and a “home away from home” where the coffee is always brewing. She said the shop is a nice place to socialize, adding that her staff loves receiving compliments for their work.
“We’re the friendly salon,” she said. “You get the personal touch.”
Hair Way to Beauty offers cuts for women, children and men, along with braids, nails and extensions, and Teti has seen generations of customers at the salon.
Teti’s other stylists are Kayla Bailado, Milly Burg, Cathie Rodgers, Amelia Ranieri, Stacy Moebius and Nancy Potalivo. The shampooists are Olivia Robertson and Jenn Morris.
“We feel like family,” Teti said.
Teti has no problem putting her employees in charge when she goes on vacation or has to leave the shop early.
“They’ve got my back,” she said.
Recent shop renovations have included carpet, flooring, lighting, paint and wall art.
The staff is committed to continuing education.
“Styles change,” Teti said. “You have to keep up.”
Hours are Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Thursday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Free parking is available in the lot.
