Jefferson Torresdale Hospital recently held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for its new, state-of-the-art Interventional Radiology suite designed to provide high-quality diagnostic imaging and minimally invasive treatment options for patients in one convenient location.
“You can check in here and get discharged in here, It’s one contained unit,” said Dr. Steven Wagner, Jefferson Enterprise’s chief of I.T., director of I.R. at Jefferson Torresdale and associate professor of radiology. “It makes for a much better experience.”
The suite will offer a range of minimally invasive, image-guided procedures in specialties such as oncology, endovascular care, women’s health, men’s health, trauma and pain management.
The new space spans more than 4,000 square feet and includes six prep and recovery bays for inpatients and outpatients.
“It’s a great workflow area,” Wagner said.
The space also includes two sterile procedure suites, an ultrasound procedure room and a dedicated consultation room (with a Zoom option for family members unable to make an appointment).
The procedure rooms are equipped with advanced technology, allowing clinical teams to capture higher quality and more precise diagnostic imaging while minimizing a patient’s exposure to radiation. The suite’s design also combines both angiography (X-ray) and full commuted topography (CT) capabilities within a single room, allowing patients – including those with complex, challenging cases – to complete their entire procedure in one space.
The space can also be used as an operating room for critical patients.
“There’s nothing that we can’t offer,” Wagner said.
Jefferson Torresdale Hospital is among the first in the Philadelphia region to offer this level of technology in an interventional radiology setting.
“It’s a great specialty,” Wagner said. “It’s just evolved so much.”
The suite will open for patient care in mid-December. ••
